Since you're using the line amp, you'll have better luck using the U at 10 o'clock. The one for the line amp shows it at 10 o'clock. The one for the mic pre shows the U (unity) all the way down to the left.
#Onyx blackjack manula manual
Unless something's broken, here's what's probably happening:Īccording to the manual there are two different scales on the Blackjack gain knob. I'm not a recording expert and I am in need of some help here.ĭoes anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. So the problem must be with Reaper and the monitor signal levels. I know that the mic is working because the signal reads into the preamp to the point of distortion - and reaper records this distortion - I JUST CAN BARELY HEAR MYSELF RECORDING ANYTHING WHILST MY TRACK IS PLAYING! I've installed the latest version of reaper. I've tested my USB cable, that's not the problem.

But if I route straight into the Blackjack without the preamp, the problem's the same. The Blackjack gain is low, as per the correct use of the preamp. I've even engaged the extra 20+ Gain button on the preamp. I've got the preamp gain and master output switched up very high (around 30+ dB). Even if the preamp or the interface go into the red, it sounds very quiet in reaper.

I can only hear it properly if the track is solo'ed. The problem is this: recording into Reaper, the mic signal are VERY LOW in the reaper recording monitor. The mic I'm using is a standard Shure 38 which doesn't require phantom power. This has been linked to my Onyx Blackjack interface via balanced TRS cable, and into computer via USB. I can't get any useful recording done while it goes unsolved.
